Description
PREFACE
CoMING out of the Forces into Civilian Life is rather like plunging into a tepid bath. One finds neither the icy tingling invigoration of a cold shower enjoyed on first enlisting, nor the steaming, heart-warming glow of a hot bath enjoyed on leave.
This book has been written and illustrated, not only for the actual men and women who are required to take this plunge, but for those who are (a) willing to understand them,
(b) prepared to sympathise with them, (c) disposed to send them acceptable gifts, (d) glad to gloat over the fact that they are not in the same boat themselves, and (e) agog to give Major d’Egville’s drawings a more finished appearance with the aid of coloured crayons.
And that, we rather feel, brings in pretty well everybody.
