(From the dust flap): The Loch Ness Monster became world news quite suddenly in the year 1933 and for some time afterwards it seemed possible that an official scientific enquiry might follow into the persistent rumors and counter-rumors which emanated from the Scottish Highlands; but no such investigation has taken place.

Constance Whyte has lived in the neigh­borhood for twenty years. has talked with people living in the villages round Loch Ness and has, in this way, chanced on a great deal of surprising information, often unsought. The most valuable part of the book is perhaps the collection of verbatim accounts-experiences of wit­nesses of integrity and standing in the Inverness district, many of them close friends of the author.

These reports show that the monster has been seen every year and in every season of the year since 1933, sometimes by one or two persons only, sometimes by twenty or thirty watching together—­boy scouts in camp, people traveling by service bus or road coach, etc. The reports show, too, that the animal is not a seal, whale, large eel or anything of the kind, that its career in the Loch dates back far beyond 1933 and that more than one has been seen at the same time.

If proof of the monster’s presence can be accepted without its being actually caught and exhibited, this book presents the evidence in a way that is neat, objec­tive and convincing—convincing, that is, to all but the die-hard skeptics.
