Description

Set during the chaotic reign of King Charles II, Peveril of the Peak follows Julian Peveril, a young Royalist entangled in the deep political and religious conflicts of the era. Julian’s fortunes decline due to his father’s loyalty and the surrounding Popish Plot hysteria. His life is complicated by his love for Alice Bridgenorth, the daughter of a Puritan, and his association with the mysterious dwarf, Sir Geoffrey Hudson. The novel tracks Julian’s imprisonment and struggle to clear his name amidst the intense distrust and political maneuvering in London.
