William Cowper (1731-1800) was an English poet and hymnodist. Known for his introspective and sensitive nature, Cowper was celebrated for his lyrical and reflective poetry. His works often explored themes of nature, religion, and the human condition. Cowper’s most renowned collections include “The Task” and “Olney Hymns,” the latter being a collaboration with his friend John Newton.
