Description
Toward the Sea by Stanley Middleton tells the story of Henry Shelton, a widowed Latin teacher in a Midlands college. His life takes an unexpected turn when he receives a letter from Margaret, the forthright daughter of a woman with whom Henry had a brief affair many years prior, when he was a schoolboy.
The arrival of this letter forces Henry to confront a past relationship he had largely forgotten and to navigate the complexities of this new connection with Margaret. He also has to adjust to the emotional vulnerability of Stella, his current lover.
